A passion project

Get rooted in your community. One block at a time.

Street Sweep is a community cleanup project I started over five years ago in Indianapolis. We meet up. We bring bags. We clean a block. We eat together after. That's it.

Why we do it

Indy is worth showing up for.

I started Street Sweep at FS Houses about five years ago. We had a couple of trash bags and an idea: pick a block, clean it, then go grab breakfast.

It's grown since then. We've cleaned blocks in Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, SoBro, Irvington, and a few stretches of Mass Ave. Every time, the same thing happens. Neighbors come out. Strangers swap stories. The block looks better an hour later, which is the whole point.

The long game is bigger than the bags. I want Street Sweep to grow into a city-wide thing. Neighborhoods adopting their own routes, businesses sponsoring their own blocks, people getting rooted in the city they actually live in.

How it works

Simple. On purpose.

  1. 01

    Show up

We post the meeting spot. You walk up at 9am.

  2. 02

    Bring a bag

We have extras if you don't. Gloves, too.

  3. 03

    Clean a block

Pick a direction. Walk slow. Pick stuff up.

  4. 04

    Eat together

Coffee or breakfast somewhere local after.

Upcoming sweeps

Come hang out.

Next sweep date drops in DeFelice Digest first. Sign up so you don't miss it.
